Dheyayam vadanti shivamevahi kechid anye,

Saktim Ganesamaparetu divakaram vai,

Roopaistu thairapivibhasiya tastwameva,

Tasmaat tvamev sharanam Mam Shankh paane.1

ध्येयं वदन्ति शिवमेवहि केचिदन्ये

शक्तिं गणेशमपरे तु दिवाकरं वै ।

रूपैस्तु तैरपि विभासि यतस्त्वमेव

तस्मात् त्वमेव शरणं मम शङ्खपाणे॥ १ ॥

Some say worship lord Shiva, Some say worship Goddess Shakti, Some say worship Lord Ganesha, And some say worship the Sun god, But I know that you are the one, Who is shining in those different forms, And so you are my only protection, Oh Lord who holds the Conch.1

No sodharo na janako janani na jaya,

Naivatmajo na cha kulam vipulam balam vaa,

Sandrusyatena kila kopi sahaya kale,

Tasmaat tvamev sharanam Mam Shankh pane.2

नो सोदरो न जनको जननी न जाया

नैवात्मजो न च कुलं विपुलं बलं वा ।

संदृश्यते न किल कोऽपि सहायको मे

तस्मात् त्वमेव शरणं मम शङ्खपाणे॥ २ ॥

Neither the brothers nor the father, Neither the mother nor the wife, Neither the son nor the family, Nor our strength which is great, Would be useful in times of need, and so you are my only protection, Oh Lord who holds the Conch.2

No upasita mada mapyasamaya mahaanta,

Stheertani chasthikadhiyani sevitaani,

Devarchanam cha vidhi vannakrutan kadaapi,

Tasmaat tvamev sharanam Mam Shankh paane. 3

नोपासिता मदमपास्य मया महान्तः

तीर्थानि चास्तिकधिया नहि सेवितानि।

देवार्चनं च विधिवन्नकृतं कदापि

तस्मात् त्वमेव शरणं मम शङ्खपाणे॥ ३ ॥

Neither have I ever served, Great learned ones of religion, And nor the sacred waters of fame, With religious devotion, And nor have I worshipped Gods, In the prescribed mode, And so you are my only protection, Oh Lord who holds the Conch.3

Durvasana mam sada parikarshayanti,

Chitam sareeramapi rog ganaa dahanti,

Sanjeevanam cha parahasha gaham tadaiva,

Tasmaat tvamev sharanam Mam Shankh paane. 4

दुर्वासना मम सदा परिकर्षयन्ति

चित्तं शरीरमपि रोगगणा दहन्ति।

सञ्जीवनं च परहस्तगतं सदैव

तस्मात् त्वमेव शरणं मम शङ्खपाणे॥ ४ ॥

Bad thoughts drag my mind, Always and always, Groups of diseases burn, My body always and always, And even my mode of life, Is in the control of others, And so you are my only protection, Oh Lord who holds the Conch.4

Poorvam krutaani duritaani mayatu yani,

Smrutvakhilani hrudayam parikampate me,

Khyata cha te patita pavaa tathu yasmah,

Tasmaat tvamev sharanam Mam Shankh paane. 5

पूर्वं कृतानि दुरितानि मया तु यानि

स्मृत्वाऽखिलानि हृदयं परिकंपते मे ।

ख्याता च ते पतितपावनता तु यस्मात्

तस्मात् त्वमेव शरणं मम शङ्खपाणे॥ ५ ॥

The memory of sins that I committed earlier, Makes my heart pain and shiver, And you are famous as the one who pardons sins, And so you are my only protection, Oh Lord who holds the Conch.5

Dukham jara jananajamvividascha rog,

Kakaswa sookara janir niraye cha pata,

They vismrute phalamidham vithatam hi loke,

Thasmat tvamev sharanam Mam Shankh paane. 6

दुःखं जरामरणजं विविधाश्च रोगाः

काकश्वसूकरजनिर्निरये च पातः।

ते विस्मृतेर्फलमिदं विततं हि लोके

तस्मात् त्वमेव शरणं मम शङ्खपाणे॥ ६ ॥

Forgetting you would result , they say ,in, Sorrow due to age, birth and different diseases, And birth as crow, bitch or pig, And so you are my only protection, Oh Lord who holds the Conch.6

Neechopi, papa  valitopi vinindhi topi

Brooyata vahamiti  yastu  kilaika varam,

Tam yachaseesha nijalokamihi vritam tey,

Tasmaat tvamev sharanam Mam Shankh paane. 7

नीचोऽपि पापवलितोऽपि विनिन्दितोऽपि

ब्रूयात् तवाहमिति यस्तु किलैकवारम्।

तं नेष्यसीश निजलोकमिति व्रतं ते

तस्मात् त्वमेव शरणं मम शङ्खपाणे॥ ७ ॥

Even  those  who   are very bad  , tainted with sin or found fault by all, If they  tell once  that  “I am yours” To those  people  you tell  they are  also  good people, And so you are my only protection, Oh Lord who holds the Conch.7

Vedeshu darama vachaneshu tadha gateshu,

Ramayanepi cha purana kadambake vaa,

Sarvatra sarva vidhinaa gathitastwameva,

Tasmaat tvamev sharanam Mam Shankh paane . 8

वेदेषु धर्मवचनेषु तथागमेषु

रमायणेऽपि च पुराणकदम्बके वा।

सर्वत्र सर्व विधिना गदितस्त्वमेव

तस्मात् त्वमेव शरणं मम शङ्खपाणे॥ ८ ॥

In Vedas and in words of wisdom, In the proverbs and in Ramayana, And in all the great collection of epics, You have been pointed out as the only protection, Always and according to all thoughts, And so you are my only protection, Oh Lord who holds the Conch.8

इति श्रीमत्परमहंसस्वामिब्रह्मानन्दविरचितं श्रीहरिशरणाष्टकं सम्पूर्णम् ।

Ithi  sri  paramahamsa  swami  Brahmananda  virachitham Sri Hari Saranashtakam Sapoornam

Thus ends the octet of surrender to Hari  which was composed by Brahmananda the great  sage
