Shri Pandurang ashtakam (Pandurangashtakam) Stotra is a very beautiful creation of Shri AdiShankaracharya. Pandurangashtakam stotra was composed in Sanskrit. It is sung in praise of God Panduranga who is standing on a brick for his devotees, to give them blessings, peace and happiness and every thing they deserve. God Panduranga is Lord Vishnu’s avatar. Adi Shankaracharya tells us why he worships God Panduranga. Shri Panduranga is also known as Vitthal , Vithal or Panduranga Vithal.
Lord Vithal, or Panduranga Vittala, is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and is worshipped in the world famous Pandarpur Rukmini Vithal Temple at Pandarpur in Maharashtra. One who chants Shri Pandurang ashtakam (Pandurangashtakam) gets rid of all sins done in present and past lives and secures a place in Vishnu loka.
महायोगपीठे तटे भीमरथ्याः
वरं पुण्डरीकाय दातुं मुनीन्द्रैः।
समागत्य तिष्ठन्तमानन्दकन्दम्
परब्रह्मलिङ्गं भजे पाण्डुरङ्गम् ॥ १ ॥
mahaayogapeethe tate bheemarathyah
varam pundareekaaya daatum muneendraih
samaagatya tishthantamaanandakandam
parabrahamalingam bhaje paandurangam. 1
I bow to Pandurang in the form of Parabrahma, who comes with many great rishis to grant boons to the river Bhima, the abode of Mahayoga, in the region known as Pandharpur Kshetra and to grant boons to those Pundaliks. Live for those who emotionally serve their parents.1.
तटिद्वाससं नीलमेघावभासम्
रमामन्दिरं सुन्दरं चित्प्रकाशम्।
वरं त्विष्टकायां समन्यस्तपादम्
परब्रह्मलिङ्गं भजे पाण्डुरङ्गम् ॥ २ ॥
tatidvaasasam neelmeghaavbhaasam
ramaamandiram sundaram chitprakaasham
varam tvishtakaayaam samanyastapaadam
parabrahamalingan bhaje paandurangam .2
I bow to Panduranga, who wears clothes as beautiful as lightning, whose limbs are as beautiful as blue clouds, who is the abode of Lakshmi, who shines in the most beautiful light, who is the best and who has the aura of standing on a brick to give darshan to the devotees.2.
प्रमाणं भवाब्धेरिदं मामकानाम्
नितंबः कराभ्यां धृतो येन तस्मात्।
विधातुर्वसत्यै धृतो नाभिकोशः
परब्रह्मलिङ्गं भजे पाण्डुरङ्गम् ॥ ३ ॥
pramaanam bhavaabdheridam maamakaanaam
nitambah karaabhyaam dhrito yen tasmaat
vidhaaturvasatyai dhrito naabhikoshah
parbrahamalingam bhaje paandurangam . 3
Pandurang shows his devotees how deep is the ocean of world for devotees who surrender to me? That’s all there just is to the waist. I bow down to Panduranga as Parabrahm who has his hands on his waist to show this to his devotees and who wears his navel as abode of Brahma.3
स्फुरत् कौस्तुभालङ्कृतं कण्ठदेशे
श्रिया जुष्टकेयूरकं श्रीनिवासम्।
शिवं शान्तमीड्यं वरं लोकपालम्
परब्रह्मलिङ्गं भजे पाण्डुरङ्गम्॥ ४ ॥
sphuratkaustubhaalankritam kanthdeshe
shriya jushtakeyoorakam shreenivaasam
shivam shaantameedyam varam lokapaalam
parabrahamalingam bhaje paandurangam .4
I bow to the Supreme Lord Pandurang, who looks very beautiful wearing the resplendent Kaustubhamani around his neck, whose arms are adorned with Keyura and in whose heart Lakshmi resides, who is the Supreme Being and the Sustainer of the people.4.
शरच्चन्द्रबिम्बाननं चारुहासम्
लसत्कुण्डलाक्रान्तगण्डस्थलाङ्गम्।
जपारागबिम्बाधरं कञ्जनेत्रम्
परब्रह्मलिङ्गं भजे पाण्डुरङ्गम्॥ ५ ॥
sharachchandrabinbaananam chaaruhaasam
lasatkundalaakraantagandasthalaangam
japaaraagabinbaadharam kanjanetram
parabrahamalingam bhaje paandurangam.5
I bow to Panduranga, whose face is as delightful as the full moon of Kojagiri in autumn, and whose face is always full of beauty, whose cheeks are adorned with coils of hair, whose lips are as red as a jasmine flower, and whose eyes are like lotuses like nectar.5.
किरीटोज्ज्वलत् सर्वदिक्प्रान्तभागम्
सुरैरर्चितं दिव्यरत्नैरनर्घैः।
त्रिभङ्गाकृतिं बर्हमाल्यावतंसम्
परब्रह्मलिङ्गं भजे पाण्डुरङ्गम् ॥ ६ ॥
kireetojvalatsarvadikpraantbhaagam
surairarchitam divyaratnairanarghaih
tribhangaakritim barhamaalyaavatansam
parabrahamalingam bhaje paandurangam.6
I bow to Panduranga, whose head is illuminated by the light of the crown, who is worshiped by all the gods with offerings of divine and precious gems, and who has assumed the form of Balakrishna (Tribhangakriti) crawling on his knees And who has a forest garland around his neck and a tiara of peacocks is decorated on his head.6
विभुं वेणुनादं चरन्तं दुरन्तम्
स्वयं लीलया गोपवेषं दधानम्।
गवां बृन्दकानन्ददं चारुहासम्
परब्रह्मलिङ्गं भजे पाण्डुरङ्गम्॥ ७ ॥
vibhum venunaadam charantam durantam
svayam leelaya gopavesham ddhaanam
gavaam brindakaanandadam chaaruhaasam
parabrahamalingam bhaje paandurangam .7
I bow to Panduranga, who pervades the entire universe, who moves in the divine Venu, who needs no end, and who wears the cloak easily, who gives happiness to the cow herds, whose smile is very Is lovely.7
अजं रुक्मिणीप्राणसञ्जीवनम् तम्
परं धाम कैवल्यमेकं तुरीयम्।
प्रसन्नं प्रपन्नार्तिहं देवदेवम्
परब्रह्मलिङ्गं भजे पाण्डुरङ्गम्॥ ८ ॥
ajam rukmineepraanasanjeevanam tam
param dhaam kaivalyamekam tureeyam
prasannam prapannaartiham devadevam
parabrahamalingam bhaje paandurangam .8
I bow to Pandurang, who is unborn, who is the life support of Mother Rukmini, who is the ultimate resting place of devotees, who is pure Kaivalya, who is also beyond the three states of consciousness, sleep and tandra, who is always happy , who destroys the sorrows of the surrendered and who is also the god of the gods.8.
स्तवं पाण्डुरङ्गस्य वै पुण्यदंये
पठन्त्येकचित्तेन भक्त्या चनित्यम् ।
भवांभोनिधिं तेऽपि तीर्त्वाऽन्तकाले
हरेरालयं शाश्वतं प्राप्नुवन्ति ॥ ९ ॥
stavam paandurangasya vai punyadamye
pthantyekchitten bhaktya chanityam
bhavaambhonidhim teapiteertvaantakaale
hareraalayam shaashvatam praapnuvanti . 9
Whoever recites this highly auspicious Pandurang Ashtak Stotra with a concentrated mind, easily crosses over the ocean of matter and attains Parabrahma, the eternal form of Shri Hari Pandurang.9.
