Vishvaaksham Vishva-Shambhuvam ।
Vishvai Narayanam Devam
Aksharam Parmam Padam ॥ 1 ॥
सहस्र शीर्षं देवं विश्वाक्षं विश्वशम्भुवम् ।
विश्वै नारायणं देवं अक्षरं परमं पदम् ॥1॥
I meditate on Lord Narayana ( the Eternal Being ) , Who has thousands of heads ( omnipresent ) , Who sees everywhere with His multi eyes ( omniscient ) , Who does good to all the world ( the source of delight for the whole universe ) , Who is the world, Who is indestructible ( the imperishable ) , the resplendent and who is the greatest destination or goal of every soul.1
Vishvatah Paramaa – Nityam
Vishvam Narayanam Harim ।
Vishvam ev Idam Purushah
Tad-vishvam Upjivati ॥ 2 ॥
विश्वतः परमान्नित्यं विश्वं नारायणं हरिम् ।
विश्वं एव इदं पुरुषः तद्विश्वं उपजीवति ॥2॥
I meditate on Lord Narayana, Who is much greater than this world ( Omnipresent & Absolute ) , Who is forever or Eternal , Who is the world or universe, who destroys all sins and sufferings. This universe is Purusha ( the Supreme Being ) alone and is alive and subsists only because He is inside it.2
Patim Vishvasya Aatma Ishvaram
Shaashvatam Shiv-Machyutam ।
Narayanam Maha-gyeyam
Vishvaat-maanam paraayanam ॥ 3 ॥
पतिं विश्वस्य आत्मा ईश्वरं शाश्वतं शिवमच्युतम् ।
नारायणं महाज्ञेयं विश्वात्मानं परायणम् ॥3॥
I meditate on Narayana, Who owns this world, The protector of the universe , Who is the Lord of all souls, Who is perpetual and eternal , Who is personification of good ( the Auspicious ) , Who never slips ( the Indestructible ) , Who is the supreme goal of all creation worthy to be known with great effort, Who is the soul of all beings in universe, And who is the great destination or unfailing refuge .3
Narayan Paro Jyotiraatma Narayanah Parah ।
Narayan Param Brahm tattvam Narayanah Parah ।
Narayan Paro Dhyaata Dhyaanam Narayanah Parah ॥ 4 ||
नारायण परो ज्योतिरात्मा नारायणः परः ।
नारायण परं ब्रह्म तत्त्वं नारायणः परः ।
नारायण परो ध्याता ध्यानं नारायणः परः ॥4॥
Narayana is the Supreme light, Narayana is the Supreme soul ( of all living beings ) , Narayana is the Supreme Absolute Brahman , Narayana is the Supreme Reality, Narayan is the Supreme Self , Narayana is the Supreme Meditator , Narayana is the Supreme Meditation .4
Yacch Kinchit Jagat Sarvam
Drishyate Shruyate’pi va ।
Antarbahishch Tat-sarvam
Vyaapya Narayanah Sthitah ॥ 5 ॥
यच्च किञ्चित् जगत् सर्वं दृश्यते श्रूयतेऽपि वा ।
अन्तर्बहिश्च तत्सर्वं व्याप्य नारायणः स्थितः ॥5॥
Whatever is seen and heard of , everything that is present (located) inside (in the body) and outside (outside the body) is all situated in Narayan ( the Eternal divine being ) Himself.5
Anantam Avyayam Kavim
Samudrentam Vishva-Shambhuvam ।
Padma Kosh Prateekaasham
Hridayam cha api Adho-Mukham ॥ 6 ॥
अनन्तं अव्ययं कविं समुद्रेन्तं विश्वशम्भुवम् ।
पद्म कोश प्रतीकाशं हृदयं च अपि अधोमुखम् ॥6॥
I meditate on Lord Narayana, Who is infinite , Who is imperishable , Who is omnipresent , Who is pervading in the ocean of heart of every soul, Who is the source of Supreme bliss and Like a downward-facing ( inverted ) lotus flower, He is situated in the sky of the heart of all living beings Supreme abode of all living beings . 6
Adho Nisthya Vitastyante
Naabhyam Upari Tisthati ।
Jvaala-Malakulam Bhatee
Vishvasyaaya-Tanam Mahat ॥ 7 ॥
अधो निष्ठ्या वितस्त्यान्ते नाभ्याम् उपरि तिष्ठति ।
ज्वालामालाकुलं भाती विश्वस्यायतनं महत् ॥7॥
Just below the collarbone and one hand above the navel i.e. inside the heart is the supreme abode of that Supreme soul in the form of an effulgent flame ignited like a wick of fire .7
Santatam Shila-Bhistu
Lambatya Kosh-Sannibham ।
Tasyaante Sushiram Sookshmam
Tasmin Sarvam Pratishthitam ॥ 8 ॥
सन्ततं शिलाभिस्तु लम्बत्या कोशसन्निभम् ।
तस्यान्ते सुषिरं सूक्ष्मं तस्मिन् सर्वं प्रतिष्ठितम् ॥8॥
Like a downward-facing ( inverted ) lotus petal in the heart, from where the nerve cells extend in all directions, that subtle cell ( called Sushumna Nadi ) contains the whole element or substratum of things that is, the soul in the form of the Supreme Soul resides inside the heart in the form of an ever-shining fire which spreads in all directions burns stable and never gets old. 8
Tasya Madhye Mahanagnih
Vishvaarchih Vishvato Mukhah ।
So’gra-Vibh-jan-tishthan
Aaharam Ajrah Kavih ॥ 9 ॥
तस्य मध्ये महानग्निः विश्वार्चिः विश्वतो मुखः ।
सोऽग्रविभजन्तिष्ठन् आहारं अजरः कविः ॥9॥
In that space within the heart resides the Great Flaming Fire, undecaying, all-knowing, with tongues spread out in all directions, with faces pervaded everywhere, consuming food presented before it, and assimilating it unto himself.9
Tirya-Goordhva-Madhashshayi Rashmayah Tasya Santata ।
Santaapyati Svam Deh-maapaad Tal-Mastakah ।
Tasya Madhye Vahni-Shikha Aneeyordhva Vyavasthitah ॥ 10 ॥
तिर्यगूर्ध्वमधश्शायी रश्मयः तस्य सन्तता ।
सन्तापयति स्वं देहमापादतलमस्तकः ।
तस्य मध्ये वह्निशिखा अणीयोर्ध्वा व्यवस्थिताः ॥10॥
The rays of that fire is pervading above, below, right and left i.e all over from one end to other that warms up the whole body from head to toe and transmits life . In the middle of that fire the subtle flame or prana ( life ) lingers .10
(The living entity passes through periods of happiness and sorrow due to attachment to the material world. Here the soul is depicted as fire and ignorance as darkness. The moment the soul leaves the physical periphery, it meets eternal light, that is, the Supreme Soul.)
Neel-toyad-Madhyasth-
Dvi-dyullekhev Bhaasvara ।
Neevaar-Shook-Vattanvi
Peeta Bhaasvatyanupama ॥ 11 ॥
नीलतोयद-मध्यस्थ-द्विद्युल्लेखेव भास्वरा ।
नीवारशूकवत्तन्वी पीता भास्वत्यणूपमा ॥11॥
Radiant like a thunderbolt in blue rain-bearing clouds, as fine as a sesame seed, yellow as gold, as subtle as an atom, this light is intense and that flame continues burning. 11
Tasyaah Shikhaya Madhye
Parmaatma Vyavasthitah ।
Sa Brahma Sa Shivah Sa Harih
Sa Indrah So’ksarah Parmah Svarat ॥ 12 ॥
तस्याः शिखाया मध्ये परमात्मा व्यवस्थितः ।
स ब्रह्म स शिवः स हरिः स इन्द्रः सोऽक्षरः परमः स्वराट् ॥12॥
In the Middle of That Flame, the Supreme Self dwells. This (Self) is Brahma (the Creator), Siva (the Destroyer), Hari (the Protector), Indra (the Ruler), the Imperishable, the Absolute, the Autonomous Being. Prostrations again and again to the Omni-Formed Being, the Truth, the Law, the Supreme Absolute, the Purusha of blue-decked yellow hue, the Centralised-Force, Power, the All-Seeing One.12
Ritam Satyam Param Brahm
Purusham Krishn Pingalam ।
Urdhva-retam Viroopaaksham
Vishva-Roopaaya Vai Namo Namah ॥ 13 ॥
ऋतं सत्यं परं ब्रह्म पुरुषं कृष्ण पिङ्गलम् ।
ऊर्ध्वरेतं विरूपाक्षं विश्वरूपाय वै नमो नमः ॥13॥
Prostrations again and again to the Omni-Formed Being, the Truth, the Law, the Supreme Absolute, the Purusha of blue-decked yellow hue, the Centralised-Force, Power, the All-Seeing One.13
ॐ नारायणाय विद्महे वासुदेवाय धीमहि तन्नो विष्णुः प्रचोदयात् ||
Om Narayanaya Vidmahe Vasudevaaya Dhimahi Tanno Vishuh Prachodayaat
We commune ourselves with Narayana, and meditate on Vasudeva, may that Vishnu direct us (to the Great Goal).
